tonight we had dinner at subrosa. this intersection at clinton street is one of my favorites in Portland. if we lived around the corner, i bet we would eat here weekly. it is a true neighborhood place, and i always feel as though we are sitting in on a celebration of warmth and delicious smells – but without an air of imposition.
they have this one large table, and it is always reserved for a weekly get together, or intimate family birthday. every time, we sit at our table for two and watch as a group of 8 or 10 slowly forms, sharing glasses of wine, bread and cheese. someday i will be at that table.
